 3 individuals were slain at Michigan State University, and authorities say the shooter is now dead.

According to authorities, shootings on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing on Monday night resulted in three fatalities and five injuries.

Off-campus police discovered the suspect deceased from what seemed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. At around 12:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, authorities stated that no motive had been identified.

At 8:18 p.m., shots were fired inside Berkey Hall, which houses the College of Social Science and is the scene of two fatalities. Shortly later, a second gunfire was reported at the next-door MSU student union. According to Interim Deputy Chief of MSU Police Chris Rozman, one person passed away there.

Victims were taken to Lansing's Sparrow Hospital. Although some of the victims do have life-threatening injuries, Rozman added that at this time, no more details about the victims are being made public.

The single suspect, who was last seen leaving the student union on foot, is believed to exist, according to police. The suspect had communication with law enforcement. The name of the suspect and any potential ties to the school have not been determined, according to Rozman.

The shelter-in-place alert was canceled early on Tuesday. The police warned parents not to visit the college in the hours following the shootings. Rozman noted that there are hundreds of cops from various agencies on campus.

We comprehend for parents, Rozman said. "The emotions that are present at this time are beyond my comprehension. The less people there are currently on campus, the better it will be for us, our response, and our ability to locate the gunman."

At 10:10 p.m. ET, police reported that Brody Hall, Snyder/Phillips Hall, Mason Hall, Abbot Hall, Landon Hall, the MSU Union, and Berkey Hall had all been cleared and secured.

All school events, including physical and online classes, as well as athletic competitions, have been postponed for at least 48 hours. Both students and staff have access to counseling resources within the school.
